This exhibition brings together sculptural objects that come from the desire to make things that are not derivative or intentionally reference or conceptualize something other. They are not topical and don't speak to anything that is happening in the world now. In a time when the world is reeling back from a pandemic after taking stock of what matters most and attempting to maintain some semblance of sanity from the frequency of negative news it's important to relearn how to feel, how to interpret, and to take a break. While art is a vital and valuable vehicle for the telling of the history of our time these works are not for that. They are inherently tense and fragile portrayals of pattern, shape, and repetition; through expansion and contraction they are both static and kinetic. They are the outcome of an investigation into a specific process where linear repetitive patterns are cut into singular thin plywood sheets that take shape over curvilinear form.
